Apparatus tablets: unit status and times

A truck is not a person

A tablet enrolled as an apparatus behaves differently from a member's phone. It reports where the unit is in the call, using three buttons:

  • EN ROUTE — the unit is rolling.
  • ON SCENE — the unit has arrived.
  • CLEAR / IN SERVICE — this unit is done and available again.

These are kept completely separate from personal responses. A truck never appears in the count of members responding, and a member's phone cannot report a unit time.

⚠ Why these times matter

They are the per-unit times your NERIS report needs. Captured on the truck as the call runs, they end up in the call record instead of being reconstructed from memory days later. They remain fully editable by whoever writes the report.

Move to Recent

An apparatus can also move a finished call off everyone's active list. During a busy spell that keeps the active screen showing only what still needs doing.

It does not lock the call. Members can still open it from Recent, mark up, and report times as normal. It is tidying, not closing.

Setting one up

An officer goes to Responder devices, chooses "An apparatus", types the truck's name, and issues a code. Type that code into the tablet. You do not need the Truck Check module — typing the name is enough.

What a tablet deliberately cannot see

A truck tablet is a shared device, so it does not show the responding member roster or personal details. It does show the caller's name and number, because a crew may need to reach the caller and may not be at the truck.
