Installing the app and enrolling your phone

Getting the app

Your department will tell you where to install it from. Install it the normal way, then open it.

Enrolling

The app has to be linked to you and to your department before it will receive anything. There are two ways in:

  • By e-mail — enter the e-mail address your department has on file for you, and a code is sent to it. Enter the code.
  • By officer code — an officer issues you a code from the department's Responder Devices page and you type it in. This is the route used for apparatus tablets, which have no mailbox.

An officer code is only valid for a set time — usually a day — but that is only how long you have to use it. Once your phone is enrolled it stays enrolled.

⚠ You will not be signed out

Your enrolment does not expire while you are using the app. You will not be asked to sign in again before a call. The only things that end it are signing out yourself, or an officer revoking the device — for example if the phone is lost or a member leaves.

The first time you open it

The app asks for two permissions. Both matter:

  • Notifications — without this you cannot be paged at all. If you deny it twice, Android may stop asking, and you will have to turn it back on in your phone's own settings.
  • Location — used to attach where you were to your mark-up, and for sharing your position if you turn it on. You can decline and still use everything else.

Then go to Settings in the app and set your tone, check the Do Not Disturb override, and send yourself a test page.
