Location: what is shared, with whom, and for how long

Two separate things

The app handles location in two ways, and they are controlled separately.

1. Your position on a mark-up

When you press a response, the app records where you were at that moment and sends it with your response. It is a single position, not tracking. It helps an officer see who is closest.

Controlled by Position on my mark-ups in Settings. It is on by default; turn it off and your responses carry no position. If you have not granted location permission, Settings says so plainly rather than silently sending nothing.

2. Live location sharing

This is the moving pin on the map. You choose the mode in Settings:

  • Off — never shared.
  • 15 minutes after I mark up
  • 1 hour after I mark up
  • Always share

You can also press Share location at the top of the map to broadcast for your configured time without marking up — useful if you are doing something the department needs to see but there is no call.

⚠ What we do and do not keep

  • Your position is visible only to your own department, never to other departments, never to us for any other purpose, and it is never sold.
  • Live sharing stops on its own when your window closes. The server decides that, not your phone.
  • While you are sharing there is a permanent notification on your phone saying so, with a STOP button. You are never sharing without being able to see it.
  • Opening a call is not marking up and does not start any sharing.
  • Your department can also exclude particular responses from starting a share.
